MIXED MEDIA

My work begins with photography—but rarely ends there.

The photograph is my starting point: a moment, a place, a detail that caught my attention and asked me to look a little longer. From there, I let curiosity take over.

I move between photography, Photoshop, watercolor, acrylic paint, fabric and thread—layering, altering, stitching, painting and sometimes taking the image apart before putting it back together again. Each process adds another voice to the story and gives me permission to move beyond what the camera originally captured.

I’m less interested in staying within the boundaries of a single medium than I am in discovering what happens when those boundaries begin to disappear.

Some pieces are carefully considered. Others evolve through experimentation, happy accidents and the simple question, “What if?”

That question is often where the adventure begins.

My mixed-media work is about giving myself permission to explore—to follow an idea without knowing exactly where it will lead, to combine traditional and digital processes, and to let the original photograph become something unexpected.

Photography taught me to look.

Mixed media reminds me to play.

And somewhere between the two, I find the freedom to create outside the lines.
